About the Symposium

Global leaders are pondering solutions to ecological and societal problems as both developed and developing nations are facing challenges in combating crises at the level of energy, healthcare, infrastructure, resource consumption, waste management and other aspects. There is a united call to explore and implement solutions that are sustainable, eco-friendly, renewable, natural, fitting into the circular economy paradigm and gentle on the earth.

Leaders and civil societies have also started keenly exploring solutions emerging from indigenous communities and looking at ways of bringing grassroot level transformation through local knowledge. In this context, the Indian tradition, from time immemorial, has always kept cows (including bulls) at the core of sustainability, spirituality, economics and daily life. Cows can play a central role in creating and nurturing bioresources for sustainable development and to make India Atma Nirbhar along many dimensions, including food production through low cost nutrient rich fertilizers and cooking, electrical and vehicular energy through biogas.

This symposium is a platform to facilitate dialogue amongst academia, civil society, think tanks, grassroots experts and government representatives working on the cow ecosystem. This shall serve as a medium to share work, research, insights and practical solutions in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Interventions based on Cow derivatives that go beyond milk products. The symposium also re-emphasises the concept of “Glocal” : Think Globally, Act Locally.
